Cozette Pointer Believes Movement is the “Movement”

Resident of Loganville, Cozette Pointer loves sharing a trail and sharing an important message: “Get out there for your health and healing!” Cozette is a retired U.S. Air Force 1st Sergeant, who motivates friends and family to get out on the trails to move and connect. Whether it’s her cycling friends the “Biker Beauties” her walking group “Retirementville” or the constant new friends she makes with GirlTrek, she makes movement “a movement.” Cozette enjoys the activities, but more importantly she wants to help reverse the unprecedented health crisis facing Black American women. As Cozette shared and GirlTrek reports: Black American women die younger and at higher rates than any other group of women in this country from preventable diseases that can be mitigated by regular exercise. GirlTrek, the largest public health non-profit for African-American women and girls in the United States, encourages women to use walking as a practical first step to inspire healthy living, families, and communities. Cozette is an avid participant and supporter of GirlTrek, and she is a model for integrating exercise into a well being practice and social life.

As a cheerleader in high school growing up in North Carolina, and after a life-long military career, Cozette has always incorporated fitness into her lifestyle. Upon retirement, she had the time and energy to ramp up her activity. She started running in 2006 using the Jeff Galloway method (run/walk/run), and she eventually completed 50 half marathons in 50 States before the age of 50 years. She is a proud member of the 50 States Half Marathon Club. To date she has completed 110 half marathons because, she says, “I like to eat and I love the friendships with people I would never meet otherwise – it’s a wonderful community.” In fact, Cozette met her husband through running!

Cozette Pointer and the “Biker Beauties” on Arabia Mountain this past summer of 2020.In the past couple of years, Cozette has been doing more walking/hiking and trying new locations for different adventures. “We have some of the most beautiful trails, parks and PATHs. I love to see different places, share them with friends, and when you walk, you are at a pace to enjoy and be one with nature.” Cozette is glad to know that the PATH Foundation created some of her favorite places including Peachtree Creek Greenway, Silver Comet Trail and Arabia Mountain PATH. “So many amazing people are physically active out on trails. No matter what differences we have, people can find a common core on the PATH trails: a desire to be healthy, to get outside and to enjoy nature.” She congratulates PATH on their 300th mile and hopes we keep building more. “Every community should have a safe, accessible, clean place for exercise options and nature – PATH is a proven, inclusive, beautiful asset!” Here’s to many more miles for Cozette and the PATH Foundation!
